Co-Op Engineer Interview Experience - Austin, Texas

August 1, 2020
Negative ExperienceNo Offer

Process

Applied through referrals for a Postdoc Fellow position in Machine Learning.

I spoke with the hiring manager and then had a phone screen with a senior researcher. I answered all questions, and they seemed interested.

However, their process is very slow, and if you don't follow up, they won't get back to you.

The senior researcher appeared nice, but mentioned they lacked sufficient experience in Machine Learning. It's unclear why they would interview postdoc applicants in Machine Learning and waste their time if they cannot find an appropriate interviewer with adequate expertise.

Questions

Basic ML and deep learning questions, including:

  • Regularization
  • Different types of gradient descent and their drawbacks

etc.
