Good pay and stupid work
No proper training: It was difficult to figure out responsibilities and tasks, and even more difficult to get yourself fairly graded during appraisals.
Most of the teams work on proprietary code and never share any information with other teams, fearing job loss. So, most of the time is spent fixing communication errors. Everyone is like, "I expected this to be like this."
Firmware organizations are the worst, with too much micromanagement. There are a lot of oldies. 25-30 year old grandpas will suck the blood out of you and make you quit after 2-3 years, while taking all the credit for your 2-3 years of work and surviving for another decade without doing any work.
A lot of contractors are doing zero work for years. Mostly, their parent companies are providing kickbacks.
Throw out all old grandpas and contractors. Hire fresh blood with rigorous interviews. Conduct regular graded exams for existing employees to gauge their technical skills.
