Software Engineer Interview Experience - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Process

The interview process consisted of:

  • Phone Screening
  • Coding Challenge
  • Technical Interview with two developers

Communication was not very good throughout the whole process. I had to send multiple emails to hear back at each step.

The Coding Challenge had two parts:

  • The first part was to build a counter in React that displays the amount of clicks of a button.
  • The second part was to build a Slide Carousel in React.

I didn't complete the second challenge but was still moved forward.

The technical interview was with two developers on the team. They asked me questions about coding and asked me to code a few simple things in React.

Overall, each interview went well, but the lack of communication is why I rate the experience as negative. I never heard back from anyone after the technical interview and tried reaching out multiple times to multiple people for at least an explanation as to why I didn't move forward. I feel that after getting as far as I did in the process, I should have at least received a generic "Thanks for your time, you didn't get the job" email.

Questions

Explain several things in React, such as prop drilling, state, and parent/child components.
