Large egos where engineers bring their science projects to work. This makes for complex systems. You will get asked multiple times what some systems do. Sadly, some don't accomplish much except churning CPU cycles and costs. Engineers will talk about other engineers' shortcomings behind their back, creating an environment you don't fully trust and won't feel comfortable in.
Don't allow your teams to fall into a mindset that other teams are incompetent.
Develop a culture of learning and understanding.
Follow through on your promises to employees.
