Process

I have had a couple of technical first-round Apple interviews.

The format seems to be:

  • They talk about the position and themselves for the first 10 minutes.
  • Then they spend the next 10-15 minutes asking you technical questions.
  • You ask them questions during the remaining time.

Questions

You have a bowling ball in a boat. If you drop it off the side and it sinks to the bottom, will the water level in the pool rise or fall?

You have two identical bowling balls on top of an inclined ramp. One is hollow, and one is solid. If you let both of them roll down the ramp, which one will reach the bottom first?

How would you reduce the deflection of a simply supported beam?

A pinned beam is supported by a line with an apple logo hanging from it. How would you reduce the stress in the line?

There are several questions about how I used data analysis to make design decisions in my projects within my portfolio.

You have a 5-gallon jug and a 3-gallon jug, and a hose that supplies endless water. You want to put exactly 4 gallons in the 5-gallon jug. How can you achieve this? (This is not an Apple interview question, but I figured it might be helpful.)
