A smart, experienced recruiter, possessing detailed technical knowledge, reached out to me via LinkedIn. After a few HR screenings, I was scheduled for a couple of 30-minute Skype interviews.
The questions were excellent, demonstrating the interviewers' expertise. There were no trick questions; they were directly related to the skills I listed on my resume.
A week later, I was scheduled for an onsite interview, which consisted of seven 45-minute sessions. Each interviewer represented a specific area, such as development, architecture, QA, security, and design.
The lunch also served as an informal interview with a very pleasant and knowledgeable individual.
Again, the interview questions were very reasonable. They weren't looking for obscure technical details but rather a solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals. Across all sessions, there was a significant emphasis on production support and stability from various perspectives.
Before the onsite interview, I had reservations about leaving my current good job and relocating to Cupertino. However, after the interview, I loved the environment and genuinely wanted to work there.
Apple was very generous, covering my travel expenses, which was a better experience than many of my other business trips.
Long story short, they didn't contact me for about two weeks. I eventually learned that the hiring manager had gathered team feedback and was favorably impressed. However, it wasn't for the software engineer position. He found me overqualified and recommended me for a project lead role instead.
So, I'm back to square one, with no offer and no rejection. I might have to fly there again; we'll see what happens.
As I mentioned, I am very happy with my current position, but working at Apple is a dream. I've seen and heard about how Apple changes the world, but at their headquarters, I could vividly feel it. It's a balanced mix of different skills aimed at delivering innovative solutions.
