Process

The interview process was relatively straightforward, aside from taking about 9 months from first contact to first day.

It involved a phone screen, a technical phone screen, an onsite interview, and then an offer. The technical questions were typical, including some programming challenges; nothing was out of the ordinary.

However, I am writing this review because of what came next.

After I started, I discovered that the team I interviewed with had been split into multiple groups. I was placed with nobody I had interviewed with.

This was not a big deal on its own, but I would still call it somewhat unprofessional. It's awful to walk in on your first day and learn that the people you liked during the interview process (an important consideration when accepting a position!) you won't be working with.

I quickly realized that because of this change, I wouldn't be receiving the kind of work I had expected and was told I would get during the interview. While the previous surprise was borderline unprofessional, this was absolutely crass. I mentioned it to my manager, who promised to bring something my way.

He didn't. I brought it up again and again in our regular meetings, to which he responded with the same kind of nonsense, saying it was coming, it would be soon, and I would have it in X month.

Well, X month came around, and it was still nowhere in sight. I asked my manager one more time about this, and he finally admitted I wouldn't get what I wanted.

Apple showed extreme dishonesty in my interview process and downright unprofessional actions, as a company, afterwards.

I felt suckered into a role that benefited the company but left me with no professional growth.

Questions

They asked me a lot of programming questions. This ended up seeming very strange because the work I was given was almost entirely systems administration. Weird.
