SRE Manager Interview Experience - United Kingdom

Process

I had nine (9) interviews over two months. They asked me everything they possibly could: leadership, project management, coding, on-call troubleshooting under pressure, another coding interview, and two interviews with the Senior Director of Engineering in the US. Finally, I had one more interview with the hiring manager.

They called me and said I passed all the interviews. I did really well, and they had no negative feedback. I was then told that the role I applied for went to another candidate with more domain experience, but there was a “place for me at Apple in London”.

I was then ghosted. Multiple follow-up emails to the talent team led to nothing. After all that time commitment, to get ghosted is just poor. I am disappointed in a company whose products I love. It’s just poor. If something changed and there was no more role, they should have just been honest about it.

Questions

  • Users report they cannot view photos on iCloud. You are the on-call engineer for that service. Troubleshoot the problem.

  • Leadership questions focused on providing examples where you had to motivate a team with low morale or deliver a feature you didn’t agree with.

  • Project management questions were about how you prioritize work and what tools and methodologies you use. In my case, these included OKRs and roadmaps.
