Process

I got to know why the position is open even after 3 months. I have never interviewed in such an unprofessional environment.

I had applied for the Test Automation Engineer role. HR did not bother to speak with me and asked via mail if I am interested. After me replying yes, they directly scheduled the interview. After I initially declined and called the interview scheduler multiple times, she called back and we spoke about my preferred interview date and time range. She scheduled the interview accordingly.

I asked that I would like to speak to HR for the interview process and expectations. She mentioned she is just involved with the interview scheduling part and I have to mail back to HR and ask for verbal communication. HR was hesitant to speak.

The interview was literally unprofessional:

  • 1st round was with the Hiring Manager and he was not paying attention. He was looking in a different direction and eating while interviewing.
  • Technical round was also unprofessional. One of the 2 interviewers was late to the interview by 1/2 an hour and I was asked to answer already answered questions. Both did not bother to introduce themselves and the late guy did not even turn on the camera.

I could sense both the interviewers were software developers and were not related to software quality/SDET/automation engineer. They did not ask me a single question related to the test automation framework I am using or any automation test suite for that matter.

I introduced myself and they were interested in knowing if I have created a Jenkins pipeline (DevOps guys create Jenkins pipelines, we utilize it to create test automation jobs). They asked me if I have created any framework after me mentioning my contribution to create a test framework—the only relatable question about the automation engineer role. Then they forgot I was interviewing for a test automation engineer role and asked me a medium-difficulty DSA question.

Overall, the interview process was unprofessional because it looked like they are not interested in interviewing in the first place.

Questions

2 rounds were conducted:

  • Manager rounds were mainly manual and effort questions
  • Technical round was difficult, they asked medium difficulty DSA question for test automation engineer job
