Good salary, tech shuttles, and the opportunity to work at a top company. It varies a lot team to team. On the right team with a supportive group, Apple can be a great place to learn, especially in product design.
Long hours, unhealthy work culture, poor diversity on engineering teams. If you're joining as a junior-level engineer, be expected to do a lot of grunt work for a long time, or to be stuck on a very myopic assignment. Lots of material testing and data processing. Not very much product design unless you can earn the trust of more senior engineers.
The company is driving away young talent because of its work culture and poor diversity. Most junior engineers work at Apple for 1-2 years and then get poached away to work at consulting firms or startups because of the improved work-life balance and/or competitive salaries.
More diverse teams are rare to come by, and yet they are the most appealing in the company. This is a result of a handful of awesome senior managers, i.e., Mac PD, Soft Goods PD.
