Solid pay, interesting engineering challenges. There are plenty of smart people that you can learn a lot from.
Engineering direction is determined by people who curry the most favor from leadership. Unless you are an ICT5/6, your opinions don't hold very much weight in debate. Promotions in the higher levels of engineering are almost entirely luck-based. High-visibility projects that are required for demonstrating impact needed for promotions aren't available for everyone.
