Summer software engineering intern. Worked closely with full-time engineers
Great offices, great salaries. Doing work that actually reaches people at some point. The prestige of being "Apple." Working for a company whose products everybody enjoys. Highly professional atmosphere (could be bad for some people).
The feeling of being a slave to a big corporate machine. Engineers are treated like blue-collar workers who must do what they are told. Management has little idea of what engineering is, but they do know how to deliver results using dated, business-oriented methods. High levels of stress every day.
Respect your engineers. Don't treat them like code monkeys that work for bananas. This has a huge impact on the quality of their work.
