Pros
  • Slightly higher pay compared to other big tech companies.
  • Prestige (?).
  • Discount on Apple products.
Cons

Note: this is for a virtual internship.

  • Very secretive; it feels like we're discouraged from contacting people on other teams because each employee has their own level of clearance.
  • Team members felt very aloof and silent. Even during small virtual meetings (< 5 people), none of the members turned on their videos, so we were just blank boxes talking to each other.
  • We cannot freely ask basic technical questions to people outside the team since most of the technical group chats are private. Since I can only ask team members, and they are also busy, the response time is not great.
  • The recruiting team feels very disorganized and quiet (almost no communication pre-internship and during the internship itself). Even basic information, such as full-time conversion, is not communicated unless specifically asked.
  • There is no internal documentation (or it's very rare) and no style guide for coding, so the codebase is very hard to read and understand for people new to the team. Each employee also only has clearance to 1-2 codebases related to the project, so we cannot see other teams' codes for reference/examples.
