Major office and labs are in California. What bad can you say about California? Oh, and their layoff package is also nice. So if you join the company with a mindset that you want to be laid off, Applied Materials is THE ONE.
Shutdown and layoff multiple times EVERY year since 2012. Take this year (2015) for example; there were shutdowns in July and September, and probably another 2-week shutdown at Christmas. What about layoffs? It's a continuous process, so it's even harder to quantify, but CMP had a layoff of 20% in summer 2015.
What about management? Well, if you read my comments above, what do you expect from them?
