Pros
  1. It's a highly ethical company. HR policies are well defined. People respect each other. Great work culture and no politics.

  2. All managers in PDC Software group are friendly, helpful, and supportive.

  3. Good work-life balance. Good company to settle. But you will enjoy the work only if you are passionate and willing to learn the semiconductor domain. Be double sure if this is the domain you want to continue your career before you join.

  4. Great perks:

  • Free medical checkup
  • Gym reimbursement
  • Bus pass
  • Study reimbursement for learning technology that helps you at work
  1. Onsite opportunity and to customer locations.

  2. Decent bi-yearly bonus, yearly hike, and stock purchase options.

  3. Low layoff rates.

  4. No dress codes.

  5. Flexible timings.

  6. Work from home is available for valid reasons.

Cons
  1. Applied Materials is a leader in materials engineering, and that's why software takes the second seat. If you are a person passionate about working in cutting-edge technology in CS, perhaps this is not for you.

  2. The learning curve is steep within the semiconductor domain but very shallow from a technology perspective.

  3. Most of the work is done with Core Java and Swing technology with a legacy internal framework which is less documented.

  4. There are fewer parties, fun, and games at work.

  5. No free food is provided, only tea and coffee.

  6. Compensation is on the lower scale for software engineers when compared to market trends for similar work.

  7. Work doesn't appear challenging after a few years.

Advice to Management

Management is encouraging new ideas and trying their level best to replace the legacy with new technology wherever appropriate. But the transition is a long way to go. Keep up the good work.
