Tale of 2 Companies: Good Apptio and Bad Apptio
First mover advantage on the product profile. Not much competition, so a wide-open field for generating sales.
Good snacks in the kitchen. Good engineering talent.
Awful engineering culture.
Internal politics and one-upmanship in every meeting. You can feel the tension in the room in most meetings.
Original code was very monolithic and hard to understand. The company is trying to move to a more SaaS style in development.
HR is trying to improve the culture, but I'm not sure how much they can influence given the seniority of engineering management.
Please fix the culture if you are serious about creating a long-term company.
