I worked with a lot of good people at Apptio on the technical side of things. Although over my time there, attrition meant that by the time I left, everyone was spread much too thin.
The CEO has a sales background, and the company makes bad product decisions, constantly chasing sales. The CCAT test for new hires is an insult, and no one below management higher than I was gets any equity. They talk a lot about Apptio culture, but in all of the concrete ways they did not walk the walk, at least for the engineering/product teams I was on. A lot of broader engineering practices were sort of stuck in enterprise Java culture, which is not for me, but that is very team-dependent.
Well, stop making sales-driven product decisions, but you'll need a different CEO for that.
