Pros: Stock options, a certain level of job stability.
Cons: Pathetic tech stack, mostly proprietary tools and a big old codebase, which is a mess. New work is mostly adding a few tweaks to this mess. Little to no project documentation and a low standard of coding makes it really tough to be productive. If you want to spend more time running pillar to post with minimal productivity, this is the place for you.

Pros: very realistic experience. You are part of the code development from the get-go. They do not try to isolate you with toy projects. You work with the main line of code from the beginning and contribute to their solutions. As realistic a work experience as I think it gets.
Cons: Sometimes your mentors will not have enough time to give you instructions on what to do next or the specifics of what to do. You have to figure it out on your own.
