Pros

While evaluating an offer from Arista, I had done some research by talking to company insiders and other industry folks.

I thought of penning it down here for the benefit of others like me.

Pros:

  • Lots of automation and focus on testing, which is good.
  • Good, bright set of engineers hired from the industry.
  • Looks like a good place for a fresh grad to start their career.
Cons
  • Work is mostly bound by their internal language. Everything is abstracted away.
  • Few of the earlier senior staff are downright rude/arrogant.
  • Micromanagement to the extreme. Only the guys who joined earlier are trusted.
  • The company does not have a transparent employee evaluation system, and there are no internal levels assigned or known to employees. It is difficult to feel you are progressing in such a company.
  • The rating system is based on game theory.
  • HR/Facilities is a joke.
  • WFH is frowned upon. Silly, childish policies like annual company outings are mandatory, or else you have to take PTO. No WFH during Diwali. Very opaque policies. No skip-level one-on-one meetings. Employees are not treated with much respect.
  • Bound to your location. Shifting to/from HQ is not possible.
  • Hiring in huge numbers when there does not seem to be a need.
  • No hikes ever. ... ...
