Pros
  • Good work culture. You can work on useful features as an intern, mostly independently, and get a good amount of trust and freedom to work on things without micromanagement. The good engineers are able to provide pointers when stuck.

  • There are only two visible 'levels': engineer and engineering manager, so it feels like you have an equal voice when talking to most people.

  • The people are very knowledgeable and passionate.

  • The 'mentor' you get assigned at the start, and the internal documentation and tutorials make the somewhat initial large learning curve more manageable.

  • Not too many meetings, including at least one day a week with no meetings.

Cons
  • There is a large initial learning curve due to using many Arista-specific software, which doesn't fully transfer to skills elsewhere.
  • Work can be quite slow. The codebase is quite large and requires spending a lot of time writing tests because very high reliability is desired.
  • Due to no visible levels, it seems like it would be difficult to have much visible progression in career/salary.
