Process
Overall a positive experience, with some minor nuances.
The process consisted of:
- Recruiter call (30 mins - regular stuff).
- Screening interview (1 hour - 1 LeetCode medium task + quick design of one of Asana's features). I passed, but the recruiter mentioned that something wasn't ideal in terms of communication. Upon reading the feedback itself, I didn't find anything serious, just some common communication issues that can happen to anyone, especially during an online call. However, it could be said that the interviewer was very scrupulous, analyzing nearly every word.
- Interview panel:
- Systems interview: a task involving bash/cli commands, which later turned into a fairly quick system design discussion + a classic system design task. The interviewers were nice, and I think I did well overall.
- Coding interview: 90 minutes of coding alone. This was the part I didn't manage well, as I started from the wrong approach (intending to iterate over it later). Once time passed, interviewers rejoined to discuss the solution and potential improvements. The interviewer was somewhat cheeky and annoying. I solved 3.5 out of 5 features and explained how the ideal solution would look.
- HM interview: a typical behavioral interview. I liked the person conducting the round.
- Design interview: I'm not sure if "design" is the right word, as it consisted of another typical LeetCode medium question + an OOP-like design of a famous game. The interviewer was very polite and nice.
Overall, the interview wasn't the easiest, though I wouldn't say it was hard – just somewhat specific. There was also a guide provided by the recruiter, which explained what to prepare and turned out to be quite helpful. I wouldn't say I failed the interview panel (it was good overall); apparently, it wasn't enough to meet the bar for that particular role.

Good, if you are not bothered by a new office's rough edges

Pros: - Compensation is pretty good, and stocks are going up right now.
- Interesting product to work on.
- Colleagues are great so far.
- Dogfooding — using Asana to build Asana makes you so much more involved.
- Office location is just 2 blocks from metro Centrum, so it's pretty easy to commute.
- Since the company came to Warsaw pretty recently, you can still affect and build office atmosphere.
- Pretty generous office days lunch allowance.
Cons: Most cons are related to the office being opened pretty recently, so I expect things to get better in many areas.
* Accounting is outsourced, and folks from Asia don't know much about Polish taxes and legal stuff, so you have to explain things to them sometimes — I'd prefer the opposite.
* Asana helps with the legalization process, but it's pretty slow.
* Some perks common for companies in Poland have not been established yet (like Multisport).
* AFAIK, some big tech companies in Warsaw like Google and Microsoft reimburse commute and/or parking expenses — unfortunately, that's not the case here.
* Two pretty senior folks have been let go while still on probation during the past few weeks — it affected morale since we still know everybody in the office, and a lot of people are still on probation as well.
* More flexibility with WFH would be appreciated.

Pros: Generally laid back, competent and nice work culture. Perks are good, pay was solid for me.
Cons: Not super exciting work. Lack of vision at mid/upper management.
