I applied and got a response in reasonable time. I knew the topic well. The manager was international, experienced (~15 years), and had been working in the Eindhoven engineering scene for a long time. The job application was for a technical position because I liked the topic. I was asked technical questions, and that went fine. Then, the manager decided to investigate how I intended to use the position and grow beyond it – whether I wanted to get a management position quickly. I replied, "No, I'm not sure yet. I applied for the technical position." The manager then looked at me and plainly asked if I'm ambitious, because [people from a certain Middle Eastern country] are ambitious and want managerial roles soon. I told them I'm not from that Middle Eastern country. The manager assumed from my looks I'm from a "certain ME country" and asked "how ambitious I am." This is a racist assumption. I'm not even from the ME! I decided not to join ASML.
How I intend to use the position and grow beyond that - whether I want to get a management position quickly?
[The manager made a racist assumption about my "ambitions" and ethnic background based on my looks]
