I appeared for an Atlassian interview a couple of months back and wanted to share my feedback on the process.
What went well: First of all, thank you for giving me this opportunity. It was an excellent experience to be interviewed for Atlassian engineers. From the scheduling of the interviews to the final interview, everything went great.
Recruiters shared the detailed job description, explained the process thoroughly, and even provided preparation material, which helped me a lot. All discussions were scheduled at my convenience, and every interviewer was a very good person and an excellent engineer. The overall process until the last interview was pretty smooth, well-planned, and exceptionally executed.
What needs improvement: However, the daunting phase came later with dealing with the Atlassian interview process. A few days after the last interview, I received a call from the recruiter stating that my feedback for all rounds was positive and I should expect a call from HR in the next couple of days. As suggested, I waited for a few days but never received a call.
I then dropped an email to the recruiter and HR but received no response. After a few more days, I called the recruiter again, but the call went unanswered. I assumed people might be on holidays or busy. So, I waited again for a few days and then repeated the same process of email-call-email. This time also, I received absolutely no response.
After trying to connect with HR for several weeks, I investigated to see if my case was unique. I decided to explore portals like Glassdoor and, to my utter surprise, discovered that this "ghosting" is quite common at Atlassian India. I am not the only one who has not heard back from HR after the interview.
Suggestion: One of the easiest things to implement, I recommend, is that before closing any recruiting case (i.e., candidature), request recruiters to attach an email informing candidates of their final status. Without this, the case should not be allowed to close, similar to a Jira ticket.
