Initially, I was contacted by an internal recruiter. The process for scheduling an interview was very confusing, and eventually, the recruiter was gone.
So, I applied through the website and received a 90-minute HackerRank test. I completed 4 out of 5 questions.
After this, I was contacted by the same recruiter, and this time I had a 30-minute talk with him, covering standard HR questions.
He informed me that they would like to move forward with my application and scheduled a technical interview.
This technical interview was with two individuals. They were pleasant but not particularly welcoming. The technical interview had three parts:
Finally, I received feedback from the recruiter. He largely copied the feedback provided by the technical team. The feedback was transparent and good. As I had anticipated, they felt my live coding test was not particularly impressive and that I would be a better fit as a mid-level developer, not a senior one.
Then, I had to ask the recruiter if this meant I was rejected or if I could be considered for a mid-level position.
He confirmed that I could continue the process as a mid-level developer.
Following this, I had another technical interview with a tech individual who was not welcoming at all.
I undertook another live coding test. He sent me a Java Maven project and a PDF containing Jira "stories."
I attempted to review the project, but the interviewer began rushing me, even though I had watched a video about the Atlassian process, which advises taking all the time you need. I had less than two minutes to understand the project.
Then I started coding, but I was very anxious again. I believe this type of live test is highly stressful and does not evaluate candidates effectively.
Finally, I received feedback agreeing with the previous assessment: I could be a fit as a mid-level developer and should consider reapplying in about a year.
It was again unclear to me whether I could be hired as a mid-level developer. I asked the recruiter about this, and after some hours, he responded that he was looking into whether I could proceed as a mid-level candidate but never provided a definitive answer.
Ultimately, I believe my second technical interview did not follow the process for a mid-level position, as the recruiter had stated, but rather served as a second chance technical interview.
Overall, I did not enjoy the process. I am also applying for positions in Germany, and the recruiters there seem much more welcoming and professional.
Nevertheless, it still appears to be a good company to work for.
HackerRank regular questions.
Live code test about implementing a Connection Pool and Connection interfaces. Basically, they wanted me to implement the Decorator pattern. I was a little nervous, so I needed some tips, but finally, I could implement it without them telling me it was the Decorator pattern. They also asked me about the thread safety of my solution.
Second live code test about bug fixes in an existent Maven/Java project.
