The HR person at Atlassian was amazing – very responsive, friendly, and helpful. They answered all my questions.
I had three interviews:
Design Challenge: I chatted with an Atlassian engineer and we went through an application and how to deploy it on AWS. It was great, and the engineer's feedback was also excellent.
Python Challenge and Systems (Linux) Challenge: Both of these interviews felt very strange. The questions were basic and didn't seem relevant to a Senior position. I expected to discuss complex technical questions and describe my experience with specific situations I had worked on. However, the questions were so fundamental, like asking what the top command does or what swap is. It felt more like a second-semester Computer Science exam.
Atlassian seems to be a great company. I would suggest focusing the interviews on the specific skills required for the role, rather than solely on general experience. Perhaps a review of an Operating Systems textbook from a Computer Science degree would be beneficial :|
What is the Linux command top?
What does swap mean on the Linux top command?
How do you invoke a function in Python?
