Software Engineer Interview Experience

Process

The process began with a recruiter call to discuss why I chose Atlassian and my background. This was followed by a first interview with a manager who asked a series of technical questions.

A week later, I progressed to two back-to-back interviews conducted over BlueJeans. The first interview involved a presentation about a past project. The second was a coding test in Java, which required writing JUnit tests.

The recruiter contacted me a few days later with news of my rejection. The feedback provided was "the project was not technical enough," which I found unreasonable. The project included various system and scalability designs, so I am unsure what they were looking for.

All recruiters I spoke with were extremely nice and knowledgeable about the company, making for a very smooth and pleasant experience.

Questions

The manager interview focused on core questions regarding Python, Java, multi-threading, version control, networking, and system design.

First video interview: Present a project you have done in detail for 45 minutes.

Second interview: OOP design in Java for 45 minutes.
