The yearly employee performance review and salary adjustments are not ideal. The way the cycle works is that the increase depends on how well you performed this year, but this is entirely determined by your manager, and you have no chance to present your achievements whatsoever. You're just given a proposed increase, and you have no choice but to accept it. This year, the increase was not even high enough to match inflation. Promotions only happen twice a year, and it's tough to get promoted. There are guidelines that at first seem to be very helpful, but after a while, there is a realization that these guidelines are actually obstacles, and it's sometimes nearly impossible to check all the boxes needed to get the promotion. As with most companies these days, it's much easier to get promoted and get a nice raise when you change jobs.
