Pros
  • Good internal culture of calling out bad choices by HR for employees.
  • Good side perks (e.g., budget for setting up WFH equipment).
  • Focus on remote workers as first-class citizens. If you want to travel while working or work from home, you can do it here.
Cons

Internal mobility can be difficult (have to apply for a team, and stay in teams for at least a year before relocating).

Salaries are location-based, which doesn't make sense from a pay equity perspective (particularly for non-US/AUS based employees, such as in India).

Focus on remote work makes the in-office experience pretty disappointing for a tech company. If you prefer to work from the office, it's not as good as at Atlassian.

Advice to Management

Get some normal employees from outside HR to read comms or be involved in decision making. Way too many self-owns come from the people team. Don't hire for the sake of hiring. Hire good people for specific goals, not just because big numbers sound like growth.
