Pros
  • Total salary compensation is competitive.
  • Great benefits, such as work from home and paid parental leave.
  • Good indication of diversity, at least on the teams around me. There is a good balance of gender and cultural backgrounds.
Cons

Ironically, during COVID in 2020-2021, it was a much better time to work at Atlassian. Back then, there was more support for our wellbeing, for example, providing COVID special leave and additional recharge days. The people I worked with were welcoming and truly living the Atlassian values.

Over time, the culture turned backwards. There were no more recharge days, and they introduced more and more performance metrics to measure us against each other. People are more anxious and in a race to increase their PR counts. There is also a strong focus on proving individual contributions, hence we need to constantly collect evidence of our work and impact. All of this combined leads to a never-ending burnout.

If you are already in a job that you enjoy and are considering Atlassian, I would advise you to really rethink if the salary and advertised benefits are truly worth your mental health. Also, the benefit policies are constantly changing, so they might not be as great in the coming future.

Advice to Management

Re-evaluate hyper-competitive individual performance metrics to a system that fosters healthy teamwork and collaboration.
