Great engineers, not so great management

Pros

The products are very interesting, and the engineers are great, supportive people. Autodesk is trying to solve real-world problems and make a difference. All the intentions are good.

Work-life balance depends on the team you work for, but is good in most cases. Working with teams in different time zones can be challenging, but you can use flex working hours to get things done during the day if you are expected to work at odd hours.

Cons

Sometimes projects are started that make no sense to the engineers. Any discussion on why it may not work out is ignored, suppressed, or discouraged.

Later, you find out that the project has failed because the people working on it are now doing something else. Projects fail very quietly and are swept under the carpet.

No one at the executive level is held accountable for failed projects, and no analysis is done to find out what happened.

And this happens over and over again, causing loss of morale.

Advice to Management

Talk about failures and learn from them. Don't pretend they never happened.
