Process

The whole process was async.

  1. First interview (screening): A Slack conversation with another engineer, based on various topics typically discussed in a screening interview.

  2. Code test: Fulfill objectives in a project using an unknown codebase. This was an unpaid project and took about a week to finish. An engineer reviewed the pull request.

  3. Trial: Fulfill objectives in a larger project using another unknown codebase. This part was paid. It took around four weeks to finish (people usually do it in six to eight weeks). An engineer reviewed the pull requests. Passing this stage ensured an offer.

  4. Second interview (informal chat with DevEx team): This was a video call. We talked about my interests to find the right team for me.

  5. Third interview (offer from HR): This was another Slack chat. We negotiated terms.

Questions

Basic software engineering fundamentals, such as web security, performance, optimization, and designing large-scale systems, were tested.
