When I first got hired at Best Buy, I thought it was going to be a temporary job with not much meaning. However, throughout the past few years, I have gained a lot of knowledge on how a business functions and other important information on business management. The employee discount was awesome until last year, but we could get certain stuff like accessories and HDMI cables for very cheap.
They praise that they want you to give a great experience when a customer walks in the store. However, the second we had a bad day or couple of days, the GM pushes us to act like car salesmen and really push customers to get the protection plan and services and provide a "complete experience". They completely contradict themselves sometimes, and not enough training goes into product knowledge and too much on pushing sales.
Stop pushing your customers so hard. It makes them push their customers more, which makes them uncomfortable and not want to come in again.
Hire better employees and train them better on product knowledge.
When I interviewed, I first had a screening interview with the store lead. After that was completed, I had an in-person interview with the store manager that maybe took 30 minutes.
Very laid back, almost too laid back. Nothing serious. Wore a suit, but felt casual was alright. I don't think the questions were too difficult; they mainly asked scenario and personality questions.
Very easy, basic interview with the store manager. The manager was very friendly and didn't just focus on sales questions, but also talked about our cultures, etc. He hired me on the spot, I signed the required documents, and I was good to go.
