The interviewer was nice, and he was friendly and willing to give hints. The question had two follow-ups, and it was hard to complete in time. The question was not a typical LeetCode.

Pros: Square is challenging and rewarding. A "choose-your-own-adventure" company where strong people can really shine.
The company incentives align well with customers, so you can tell that you are doing the right thing for small business owners.
The NY office is small and growing (about 100 people), making it feel more like the early days of the company, with all the benefits of a public company on top.
Cons: The company is growing and changing rapidly, and there is significant demand for engineers to be flexible, including suffering whiplash at times. If you are looking for a steady plug-and-chug sort of job, Square may not be the right place.

Pros: WLB has been good most of my 4 years here, and most people agree, I think.
Stack is AWS/Datadog/TF, industry standard.
Good benefits.
Cons: Product leadership is pretty bad.
AI slop culture is pretty big.
Relentless reorgs have been happening since August 2023.

Pros: I haven't been here long, but everything I've experienced at the company has been positive so far. Everyone I've spoken to, from Jack down to my peers, is super intelligent and motivated. The products are meaningful and built so that anyone can understand and use them, even people who aren't on the cutting edge of technology. The office is gorgeous and stacked with perks and amenities.
Cons: Square feels like a little fish in a big pond with bigger companies tackling the same problems, but it feels like our size can be an advantage when it comes to moving quickly and innovating.
