Process
I spoke with a recruiter at my school's career fair and was contacted about a week later regarding an interview.
I had two on-campus interviews, after which I received an offer.
The first interview consisted of:
- Two algorithmic questions
- One puzzle
The second interview consisted of:
- One algorithmic question
- HR questions

Pros: Free snacks and soft drinks.
Pay is good.
The company really pays a lot of attention to the internship program.
The people working there are smart.
Cons: Technology is amazingly old. Do you know Comdb?
Managers don't care about your feelings as long as you get the work done, regardless of how you achieved it.
For an intern, whether you can get a full-time job offer is independent of how your work was during the summer, even if you work hard and your mentor and manager like you.

Fun Interns, Long Hours

Pros: I worked at Bloomberg for a 3-month summer internship.
They have lots of events for interns, which keeps it interesting.
The other interns were really cool people who were great to hang out with.
Cons: My team consisted of people quite a lot older than me, which made it hard to relate to them. They also didn't talk a lot, which can make it a bit depressing when you're sitting in front of a screen all day. It'd be nice to break up the monotony a bit.
The hours are also very long, and combined with an hour-long tube journey each way, there was really no free time available (aside from weekends), which just really took it out of me.

Pros: The pay is good, the people are smart, and the snacks are free. Work is generally interesting, and a good deal of flexibility is given to make your own hours and choose a project that is engaging for you.
Cons: Developers often have to support legacy software that has no chance of ever being replaced.
The company has some really proprietary practices, architectures, etc., that do not translate into building your programming skills in the world at large. This often makes it tough to transition out of Bloomberg to another company.
