Pros: - Surrounded by very competent people.
- Depending on the team, you could be working with cool tech (Kubernetes, Docker, React, Cloud).
- Salary is great.
Cons: - Depending on the team, you could be working with old tech (C++, Perl).
- Some managers are really bad; very good technically, but have no people skills. This is not the majority of managers, however. The majority of managers are great.

Bad engineering by bad engineers

Pros: The compensation is reasonably good, and the benefits (medical, 401k) are pretty good too.
The parental leave policy is one of the best anywhere (6 months fully paid).
Cons: The software engineers I have worked with here are some of the worst software engineers I’ve ever worked with.
The bar seems to be very low, and some truly terrible engineers then end up doing interviews to hire more bad engineers.
The systems that result from this are predictably brittle and poorly architected.
The engineering leadership is totally out of their depth for how to solve this problem, let alone diagnose it, as far as I can tell.

Pros: A culture that values innovation, where new ideas are encouraged and recognized.
An excellent company choice for those who prioritize work-life balance.
Leaders and managers are highly supportive and understanding.
They offer opportunities for cross-training and encourage lateral career movement within the organization.
Cons: The tech stack predominantly consists of Bloomberg proprietary tools, private cloud solutions, and open-source technologies.
With an emphasis on open-source, teams often need to develop their own code, which can lead to redundant efforts as similar solutions are recreated repeatedly.
Additionally, many teams lack clear guidance from leadership on best practices for coding and choosing the most efficient technologies.
