Pros: It's relatively easy to get lots of ownership as a software engineer at Bloomberg, which can be great for career growth. Management treats employees well, and the company's revenue continues to grow. Work-life balance ranges from good to great, aside from a few understaffed teams. Some of the C++ developers are among the best in the industry. The company donates 95% of its profits to charity. After a few years here, software engineers commonly get interview requests (and sometimes job offers) from all FAAMG companies and top trading firms. And some people leave those companies for Bloomberg.

Cons: Compensation lags behind that of many other companies that hire software engineers, especially for those with more than ~3 years of experience.

Pros: Good compensation, good benefits, virtually no overtime or even phone calls beyond usual working hours.

Cons: The technical stack (like the C++ standard or compiler being used) is somewhat lagging behind. This is somewhat expected of a company this size and history, and some might find it a good thing. Moreover, trying to bring in new technologies, even if proven in other companies or projects, is non-trivial. Personal projects, even if open-source and non-profit and in purely personal time (think weekends), are, in my opinion, frowned upon and somewhat hard to get approval for.
