Process

I applied online to the Commodities Department for the position of C++ Developer. Within a few days, I received a response, and they scheduled a telephonic interview.

The interview was conducted by two people: one was a Developer, and the other a Senior Manager.

There were very few logical or puzzle-like questions, and no problem-solving questions. The interview was mostly concentrated on in-depth knowledge of C++. They wanted someone who could work on supporting C++ applications running in production.

They started with normal questions about inheritance and then moved into the STL. There were a few questions about how I would handle issues in production.

Questions

What are iterators? How are they defined? What is the size of an iterator in memory?

If you are given a dictionary of words, how would you find anagrams from them? What data structures would you use, and what would be the algorithm?

If your program is hung in a production environment, how would you debug it without stopping it?

What is a virtual pointer table? Do different objects of a class have different virtual pointer tables?

What are smart pointers? What is auto_ptr in STL?
