Software Engineer New Grad Interview Experience

Process

The process was impersonal.

I had a very easy phone screen which led me straight to the onsite interviews.

About 30 candidates sat together on a long couch; only 5 of whom were women.

We went on a tour of the office, and they picked us off one by one for our interviews. I was interviewed in a sterile little conference room with glass walls, so everyone who walked by stared at me like I was a zoo animal.

They left me alone in the room for lunch and did not tell me when the next interviewer would arrive.

The interviewers were looking for one specific answer and were unwilling to explore other possible answers. They were unfamiliar with Python and frequently interrupted me.

Questions

Phone screen:

  • Move zeros
  • Design an MCU cache

Onsite:

  • Meeting room LeetCode question
  • Random tree questions they clearly made up on the spot.
