Process

Phone Interview:

It started with a phone interview from Bloomberg, which was 20 minutes late. The interview was very technical, and I felt I did a good job on it. Two days later, I received an email stating they wanted me to come to NY for onsite interviews.

On-Site:

They flew me out and booked my hotel stay for one night. I was able to explore the city, which was the only reason the trip was somewhat worthwhile. Then, I went to their offices early Thursday morning, signed in, and waited for the office tour with other candidates. The tour started quite late and lasted only about 10 minutes, which wasn't particularly interesting. Afterwards, we went up to meet our interviewers. I was supposed to have two, but one did not show up.

First Interview:

I was asked about my background and college classes. The interviewer constantly interrupted me, which was a bit annoying but not too bad. He then asked a technical question regarding tree traversal, which I believe I handled well. Next, he inquired about binary search and potential modifications. As I began to offer ideas, he repeatedly interrupted and presented his own, seemingly to assert his intelligence. Despite his rudeness, he was not nearly as difficult as the second interviewer.

Second Interview:

He began by asking about an application I had built, then moved on to server and database design questions for which I had no knowledge. I stated this, but he continued to ask, making me feel as though he intended to belittle me. Finally, we reached the technical portion, which involved a very difficult question I did not answer well. When he provided the solution, I noticed it was incorrect but did not challenge it, as I was already past caring about the interview. Overall, he was a very rude and egotistical interviewer. I was escorted out afterward, indicating a rejection.

NOTE: They may suggest taking a taxi back to the airport, which costs around $70, whereas the metro is just as fast and only $8.
