Software Engineer Interview Experience - Roanoke, Virginia
Process
Participated in a short on-campus interview involving figuring out if an unsorted array of ints contained a full range between two ints given as arguments of a method. Received an email asking to provide availability for a phone interview.
The first interview I scheduled, I did not receive a phone call. We rescheduled and ended up connecting. The interviewer asked a lot about my resume and then posed a question about data structures and algorithms.

Bloomberg LP Work Experiences
- 5.0A challenging but supportive place to workSoftware Engineer • Current EmployeeLondon, England, United KingdomFebruary 21, 2021Pros: Challenging & interesting problems being tackled, many opportunities within the company, active open source & inner source communities, a supportive environment, a tech company in the finance industry rather than the other way around.Cons: Longer hours than other big tech companies. Engineers will typically be on-call for one week per month/6 weeks, which can require early morning wake-ups when outages occur. This affects some teams more than others, though.
- 4.0Good pay and teammatesSoftware Engineer • Former EmployeeNew York, New York, United StatesApril 30, 2020Pros: Good teammates, fairly flexible work environment. Stability is good.Cons: More upward mobility and less politics
- 1.0Avoid like the plagueSoftware Engineer • Former EmployeeLondon, England, United KingdomApril 23, 2010Pros: • Very smart people to work with and learn from. • Free snacks and exhibition tickets. • Sponsor masters courses (performance dependent).Cons: The management treats people like crap. Progress within the company depends on talking the talk rather than walking the walk. Very long hours; you will be called at funny hours to come and fix a Fortran bug. The tools are shocking. Deadwood managers who've been in the company since day one will do absolutely anything to safeguard their position, as they know they're not employable anywhere else.
