Pros

Smart people, nice perks (food, benefits, building, access to Bloomberg terminal), ownership of software, access to training materials and courses.

Cons

Expectation of long hours; software is rushed out with many faults, and developers are expected to fix them immediately (i.e., in the middle of the night). Disjointed software infrastructure, bad software process, and disorganized mid-level management.

Support functions are minimal (no test teams, HR is not responsive, and enterprise software is frequently confusing).

Advice to Management

Bloomberg prizes speed of delivery over everything else. This means that software is rushed out, and quality is ensured by requiring programmers to respond to bugs immediately. This is a chaotic environment that makes it difficult to retain engineers. Attempts to alleviate conditions are actively discouraged.
