Pros
  • Best work-life balance that I have experienced.
  • If engaged, then you can develop a lot of useful skills.
  • Lots of opportunities to get involved.
  • Decent system for promotions and level-ups.
  • Decent pay for some roles.
Cons
  • Very dependent on work area and manager.
  • Reminder: Some people are riding out to retirement, so they might not be so helpful.
  • If the team you support is not willing to work with you, you will not have a good time.
  • Heard other engineering departments are very tough in getting promotions.
  • Pay could be more dependent on job roles/type/classification.
  • Not a great understanding of decisions from higher-ups.
Advice to Management

Share more visibility on company decisions and how they affect someone's job role. If they are a function that relays information to other teams, then prepare them for that as well, or give them a stance to talk to.
