Pros

The program taught me a lot about how larger engineering companies are run and the types of problems faced. The arcane and outdated technologies (and employees) used to manufacture H-47 provide excellent projects for quality engineers.

Cons

If it weren't for my awesome manager, I would have been stuck doing a tool cataloging process for the entire factory. That is only one step above getting coffee. Luckily, I was placed early on with some younger engineers on a project trying to overhaul some big QA problems.

Advice to Management

Give your interns difficult projects that no one has resolved in the past, and the tools to do some work. You will be surprised at their capabilities. Also, keep those who are lazy enough to pawn off their work to interns far away.
