Boeing is a world-class company that invests in the training and resources to enable employees to do their jobs well. I have worked at other large and small aerospace companies. Boeing, by a far margin, has its act together the best of them all. There is never a lack of interesting and challenging programs and jobs available to capable employees.
You can get pigeonholed into a position that can limit your mobility within the company. Senior engineers are encouraged to take lead positions that might be too much work for the individual or be outside of their expertise or ability.
Also, occasionally the wrong person rises into management, who turns a group into a toxic fiefdom that is a gulag of overtime, unmet unreasonable expectations, and poor performance reviews. To Boeing's credit, those managers do not last too long and often find themselves taking non-management positions.
Pay attention to employee feedback on the management environment. Poor managers hurt performance and employee retention. Young engineers landing with a bad manager places Boeing in a poor light and loses the best new hires. The top performers will not tolerate a bad work experience for long and will leave to seek a better position in another company.
Boeing follows a strict behavioral interview protocol. They have a list of acceptable questions which they can ask, and the interviewer will choose about three from that list. In theory, the interviewer is not supposed to engage in any other conver
The Behavioral Interview had a panel of interviewers, and we simply talked about my experiences. They asked a few STAR-type questions. Practice your answers, and it’s not too bad.
The interview consisted of questions to assess technical and soft skills. Answers were required to be answered following the STAR format. The panel consisted of two people altogether: the manager and the lead.
