Boeing is so large that there are great opportunities for advancement and transition. They pay competitive salaries and have excellent benefits, as well as continuing education opportunities.
They scrimp on the small things. A very established corporate structure meant no room for customization.
For a company making great profits, they should be able to shell out a little more for employee appreciation.
