Pros

Smart people work in DGS. Some people genuinely try to perform their best and improve for the better. Company too big to fail, so there is a lax attitude that can be either good or bad. Good work-life balance. Interesting hackathons happen now and then. Work culture at some point was open and collaborative.

Cons

Average compensation. They want loyal workers but don't reward loyalty.

Individual accomplishment won't be rewarded. At best, you'll get a verbal thank you and some pride points worth a few dollars if lucky. That is reflected in bonuses as well. Bonuses are based on your group's performance.

Too much bureaucracy and outdated practices.

High turnover; a lot of people are abandoning ship.

IT staff laid off 2 years ago, and with them left a lot of tribal knowledge and know-how.

Workspace very political.

Managers have great people skills, but behind the façade, a lot of contempt, backstabbing, and politics go on. Also, these same managers lack a concise vision, flip-flop in their decisions, and completely lack awareness regarding competition. Some of them use their teams to "vote" on major decisions as a means of diffusing responsibilities off their shoulders. Of course, said team doesn't have a say when/what those decisions are taken. If things go well, managers will take credit for their "leadership". As such, morale on many teams is very low. Some of those managers are downright delusional in their expectations (unrealistic expectations are one of the graveyard tombstones of failing projects).

Boeing overall is a sinking ship; all its upper managers care about is their bottom line. They don't have to try too hard because they know the US Gov will rescue it as it's too big to fail.

Remote work is discouraged, and hybrid work is a "privilege" that can be withdrawn at any given notice. Dinosaur management is running a company to the ground as if it's still 1989.

Good luck if you're a software engineer on some of their data science teams. You'll be siloed and work individually all while expected to be proficient in both data science and software disciplines as you shuffle through code written and deployed in subpar conditions. Any suggestions you make to improve things will fly over their heads because they are a "data science team".

Exit interviews are just formalities. Once you leave the company, you're treated like dirt. No thank yous or appreciation for the contributions you've put in all this time.
