Pros
  • Some opportunity to work across different aircraft platforms and gain different experiences.
  • Training opportunities are generally good.
  • Mostly good work-life balance and work-from-home opportunities.
  • Good travel opportunities when business needs require on-site support.
Cons
  • Minimal design experience, effectively becoming system integrators getting the designs of others onto aircrafts.

  • Career progression/promotions are constantly pushed back by middle management, causing skilled engineers to move teams or leave the business.

  • A lot of staff movements and restructuring going on in the business at the expense of developing core skill groups and procedural improvements.

Advice to Management

In recent years, it seems the company has lost its way and direction. The company needs to get back to good engineering, focusing on developing/retaining talent and improving procedures and outdated tools. Not everything needs to be funded by a customer; take some initiative and implement continuous improvement to drive efficiency into clunky tools and slow processes.

Company needs to seriously review promotions and career progression. There are many good engineers leaving the business because you won't back your own people and promote them. Need to do a lot better, simple.
