Process

  1. Intro call

I had an amazing 30-minute call. The recruiter was on time, kind, and very friendly. She explained the company to me, and given my ride-hailing experience, nothing sounded new. All went well, and she sent a take-home task immediately after the call.

  1. Take-home task

It was about a test scenario. Based on this scenario, I had to come up with a list of detailed test cases, a bug, and some steps to consider before responding to the question.

  1. Technical interview

I had to face two engineers, both in senior positions at Bolt. They were very friendly, kind, and helpful. One of them had an accent, so some of his words were unclear. The questions asked were technical and somewhat based on scenario questions, team fit, and technical knowledge, among others. In general, the interview went well up to this stage.

  1. Hiring manager

Before meeting the hiring manager, I received a rejection stating I was not the right fit for the company, without a reason. I moved on and continued my job search. Two weeks later, I received an email from the recruiter suggesting they would like to proceed with me to the hiring manager phase. I did not refuse and scheduled the meeting for two days later. I met the hiring manager, a team lead of one of the teams at Bolt. Just like the others, she was very kind and friendly but seemed unsettled, in a rush, and in a busy environment, as we had a couple of disruptions. She expressed her interest in me, and I was happy with her vision and plan for the team.

  1. Offer

I received an offer in my email a few hours later that day. It included the expected salary remuneration, both gross and net in euros, plus some stock options with a vesting period of four years. Unfortunately, the salary offered was way below my expectations. I specified an amount in the intro call, which the recruiter agreed to, and I thought by proceeding with the interviews, they had agreed to my terms. Given it also required relocation, 2000 euros was offered gross, with a net of 1900 euros. This was way below my expectations for relocation and significantly below the salary I was earning at the time, moreover remotely.
