The interview process involved a phone screening and a HackerRank test of average complexity. Success requires strong knowledge of a programming language (I used C++) and a good understanding of basic data structures like maps, hash maps, and vectors.
After passing the test, I was invited for an onsite interview which consisted of three parts: coding, system design, and a discussion about prior experience and Booking's business awareness.
For the coding portion, proficiency in basic algorithms and data structures with a focus on system scalability is essential.
The system design interview required designing a small feature for the Booking portal. This is achievable by clearly understanding the requirements and asking clarifying questions, such as the volume of data to be processed and whether processing needs to be real-time or can be done in the background.
I had a positive and enjoyable experience, and I recommend applying to Booking.
Unfortunately, I did not receive a contract due to not passing the system design part.
