Pros

One of the best and largest companies in the Netherlands. Working with great engineers. Handling problems at very large scale, which improves engineering skills based on performance, scalability, reliability, and security. People-oriented; technologically, you can focus and grow in your area of interest. Great compensation. Great work/life balance. Free food at the office and cheap coffee/snacks. People are very nice and friendly.

Cons
  • Cloud (AWS) and IAC usage is not so strong, and people are usually not so well trained on these topics. You can see spaghetti code, which shouldn't be expected by Booking standards.
  • Not all, but some HR might share misinformation or can be unresponsive.
Advice to Management

When hiring people, please consider their current knowledge on related topics and technologies rather than generic coding/system design skills. Those are important as well, but not as much as hands-on experience with related technologies that are used at Booking.com.
